Don't let her small appearance fool you, besides training at the finest health clubs in Brooklyn, NY, Goeller has trained in hard core gyms and enjoyed the serious training atmospheres they have offered. Goeller has also endured physical training at the NYC Police Academy when she was working for the NYCPD in the late 1980's. Goeller has tremendous personal experience with training in a variety of settings and has become very well rounded as a result. Although Goeller's training regimen has been drastically modified over the years due to cancer surgery (1991) and an accident (2000), her mental strength and previous experiences are unmistakable when she trains athletes and fitness clients. To give an example of her strength, Goeller was performing the squat exercise with 225 pounds during the 1990's. That was her sub-max weight for that exercise. That was the same year that she attended the tryouts for the American Gladiator television show. Karen Goeller has been training athletes since 1978. She has produced State Champions, National TOPS Team Athletes, and Empire State Games Competitors among many other successful gymnasts. Three National Champions are from her gymnastics facility. One staff member was the 1996 USATT National Champion and two were gymnasts who trained with Karen Goeller for the majority of their gymnastics careers. Shortly after Karen closed her gymnastics facility, Sutisa Gonzales trained with Karen for 10 of her 11 years in the sport and was the YMCA Level 10 Uneven Bars National Champion and Kathryn Fong came to Karen as a weak level five and within less than five years with Karen she became a strong level 10. Fong was the USAG Level 10 National Champion on Balance Beam. Goeller and her athletes have been featured regularly in the media including on Good Morning America, GoodDay NY, and Eyewitness News. They have also been featured in The New York Times, NY Newsday, Brooklyn Bridge Magazine, and Interview Magazine as well as in several neighborhood newspapers including the Brooklyn Heights Press, Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill Courier" and the "Spring Creek Sun" among others. More recently, Goeller has been featured in the Asbury Park Press, the Observer/Reporter, Inside Gymnastics Magazine, and the Staten Island Advance. She considers it a privilege to have worked at Karolyi's Camp, TX for seven summers as well as at USGTC and International Gymnastics Camp for a decade of Holiday Clinics. Working at these camps along with attending many USA Gymnastics events such as Regional Congress and the National TOPS Training Camp have been contributing factors to her vast knowledge of the sport. Karen feels the knowledge she gained as an employee of Paul Spadaro, Bela Karolyi, Mike Jacobson, and Bruno Klaus has really helped enable her to produce several successful gymnasts. Before earning her BA Degree, Karen's education included training as an EMT, Physical Therapist, and Nutritionist. She has held certifications such as EMT-D, Nutritional Analysis, Fitness Trainer, Counseling Techniques, Childcare Fundamentals, USAG Safety Certification, USAG Meet Director, and USAG Skill Evaluator among many others. Dowd
carefully tested more than 50 exercises
for these books and then worked as the fitness model to complete this project.
Brian Dowd’s sport has always been baseball. He has been a member of numerous travel baseball teams growing up and competed in the AAU, NABF, AABC National Championships, and the AAU Junior Olympics National Championships among others. Brian also played 4 years of varsity baseball for one of the best and most respected high school programs in New York City.
After high school, Brian Dowd went on to play 4 years of NCAA College Baseball. He currently plays semi-professional baseball in the New York area. He has coached on the high school level and currently coaches baseball on the college level.
Besides Brian Dowd's continued dedication and contribution to baseball, he has recently returned to
college to pursue his Master's Degree.
